National Work Statistics in the Republic

Unemployment Figures – Rate 12.5% November 2009.

December 2007 – Live register 173,200
December 2008 – Live register 293,000 (+69.2%)
December 2009 – Live register 423,400 (+44.5% on previous year)

Except for 5,900 in public sector, all the jobs lost were in the private sector.

The fall in employment in the last year has been 185,000 while unemployment increased by 120,000 approx —- 45,000 mainly EU immigrants left the country as did approximately 20,000 Irish.

September 2009 – 360,900 (-2,2%)

So far to December 2009, the recession has cost Ireland (republic) 236,300 jobs
