Nelson Mandela now 91 years old and 20 years after his release from the Victor Vester jail at Paarl in the Cape
In February 1990, Nelson Mandela was released nine days after F.W. de Klerk, in a speech to the whites only parliament, unbanned the African National Congress, the South African Communist Party, and other organisations and dismantled the Apartheid – racial secregation – laws in South Africa resulting in a bloodless revolution. Both went on to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
Nelson Mandela’s mission has been to unite South Africa as a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities.
President Jacob Zuma pledged to improve education, health care and housing in South Africa in Parliament this week.
