Finglas Celtic 21st

Finglas Celtic was founded in South West Finglas in 1988. The first grant was £50 from the Sports Council. Now due to major support from the Sports Capital Grants and from Dublin City Council. This weekend, they have 6 teams competimg in schoolboy football. The club has been particularly supported by the local political parties especially Fianna Fail, Fine Gael and Sinn Fein. Brian Byrne of Dublin City Council played a key role in bringing the new pitch and clubhouse at Kilshane Road, Finglas to fruition. The pitch problems have been resolved and the whole facility will be fully operational by the summer. The club runs a lotto every week to raise money to pay expenses and meets in the Shanrock Lodge Pub in Finglas Village on mondays. Fund raising events often occur in the Cardiff Inn on Cardiff’s Bridge Road.

AS you can see, I sometimes keep “bad” company at these events!! Fianna Fail ministers Noel Ahern and Pat Carey and the gauleiter of the club Jimmy Prendergast.
