ENVIRONMENTAL REPORT

Litter Fines

There were 178 litter fines issued in the North West Area from 1st January
to 31st April 2010. 112 fines were issued to members of the public (mainly
for dumping) and 66 litter fines were issued to businesses.

The Litter Wardens are concentrating on black spots and residential areas
where there are a significant number of non-collections due to arrears on
domestic waste accounts.
A number of warning letters have been issued in relation to the condition
of front gardens. Offenders are given one week to clean their gardens, if
they do not comply a litter fine will issue.

Graffiti Removal

A new contractor for graffiti removal was appointed in May and a total of
463sqm of graffiti was removed from Finglas and Ballymun during the month.

Any incidents of illegal dumping or graffiti can be reported to our Free
Phone Litter Hotline 1800 251 500 or direct to the Finglas Area Office on
222 5444 / 222 5400.

National Spring Clean Month

A total of 39 (list below) clean ups took place in the North West Area in
support of the National Spring Clean campaign. We supported residents in
cleaning up their area by providing gloves, brushes and bags and removed
any rubbish collected during clean ups.

Finglas Village Tidy Towns Committee

The Finglas Village Tidy Towns Committee has been working hard since March.
Our aim is to enhance and promote Finglas Village and surrounding areas.
The Committee consists of members from the business community, residents
associations and schools.
New Flower Beds

The committee have joined forces with a local nursery owner to enhance a
number of areas within Finglas Village. On Friday the 4th June we planted a
wonderful range of colourful summer bedding in the old flower bed outside
‘ Lino Richie Carpet’ that had not been planted in many years. The
traders in the area are going to water and maintain the flowers throughout
the summer.

We also planted a raised flower bed outside the Finglas Cab Office and
Power City. Both flower beds have generated a lot of positive comments and
we have also suceeded in gaining a number of new volunteers in the process.

The cost of the above projects was funded by the Tidy Towns Committee from
monies they won last year in the DCC City Neighbourhoods and the National
Tidy Towns competition.

If anyone wishes to find out more about the Tidy Towns Competition or the
Dublin City Neighbourhoods Competition please contact Jackie O’ Reilly on
(01) 222 5444 or Bob Ward on (01)222 5406.
