Finglas Celtic

Finglas Celtic Prize Day at the new clubhouse and pitch at Kilshane Road in Finglas with Jimmy Prendergast as Master of Ceremonies and Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht affairs, Dr Bill Tormey Leader of Fine Gael Group on dublin City Council and well-known Councillor Dessie Ellis of Sinn Fein presenting prizes to the local teams who did so well during the season.

The New Finglas Celtic Clubhouse is the best thing to have been developed in the area in the past decade. Fine Gael and Fianna Fail in particular made great efforts to help the committee get the project funbded and completed. The next phase is to develop an allweather training area in front of the car park which will save over €50,000 in training fees during the winters. In the speeches, I highlighted the great contribution of Brian Byrne of Dublin City Council and the roles of the sports development officers including Coilin O’Reilly whose father was a great runner for Metro with the late Tommy Brennan who won the All-Ireland Senior Cross Country Championships. I was never in his class but I was on the athletics team with him in school at Marian College and in UCD.
