The Lucinda Creighton Case- demonstration of testicular fortitude in politics?

Some people mistakenly think that they have attended the burial of Lucyloo after her commission of political suicide. Wrong, wrong and wrong again!

Marcus Antonius:
Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears!
I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him.
The evil that men do lives after them,
The good is oft interred with their bones;
So let it be with Caesar.

Julius Caesar Act 3, scene 2, 74-77

When Lucinda Creighton speaks up and makes common sense, there are political people in Fine Gael who would much prefer if she simply shut up. Her latest offering about the need to retain the ethical differential between Fianna Fail and Fine Gael is simply a fact.

Luciloo’s position on political bravery is also manifestly true in an adult society. But is Ireland a grown-up political society? I don’t think so. It is A-GOOD-THING to have elected representatives like Lucinda Creighton who stand for something other than whateveryerhavingyerself. The latter is the Finnegan’s Wake version of Irish politics called nimbiism.

That is not to deny that Lucyloo and Bill had a disagreement over Enda v Richard. She did not agree with the content of my open letter to Richard. No bad thing but I discovered that I agreed with myself even on mature reflection. My neck was extended in the interests of the country. Time will tell how good Enda will be as Taoiseach but I believe that he will be solid and responsible.

Sycophancy is a pathetic characteristic in adults but is often seen in politics. “Yes Boss, No Boss, Whatever you say you are right boss”. Lucinda HAS valuable talent which should be directed for the benefit of the party and country. She has ministerial ability and is ministerial calibre.

Fine Gael Women – Usually most attractive – Just as well Berlusconi is not Taoiseach! I will name a few stalwarts of Fine Gael in my time. Nuala Fennell was very much her own woman and very active in advancing women’s rights in Ireland. Monica Barnes was the real female standard bearer of liberal social democracy in Dun Laoghaire in the 1980s. ( Barry Desmond calm down – I wrote female!).  Nora Owen was the Minister for Justice who
introduced the Criminal Assets Bureau to the underworld to great effect and the good work still continues. Nora is a political icon for me. Her sister Mary Banotti was an MEP for Dublin and was an exemplary principled woman representing tolerance and decency in Europe. Mary Flaherty, who always beat me in elections in DNW, fought the liberal agenda with Garret FitzGerald when it was a vote loser on the Northside with Charlie Haughey, (hilariously in the circumstances) leading the charge in the opposite
direction. Fine Gael councillors in Dublin City – Deputy Lord Mayor Edie Wynne, Catherine Noone and Mary O’Shea are top drawer people who ooze integrity and earn unsolicited respect. I must say the same for Anne Dillon Gallagher and Eithne Loftus whom I meet at the HSE Forum.

When SYCOPHANCY came for these women, none were at home. Mental toughness, moral compass and political bravery are the hall marks of all these women.

On the 19th July, I wrote an economics vignette on SME and Job Agency Propaganda from details summarised by Damien Kiberd. Michael Noonan indicated in a radio interview that the jobs totals in the Fine Gael NewEra policy were estimates and he thought that they may be too optimistic. Noonan then found himself back-peddling on a truthful comment which in NO WAY undermined the Fine Gael jobs policy. Great accuracy in job forecasts is the territory of the Josef Goebbles School of Propaganda – “Big Lie”
technique of propaganda, which is based on the principle that a lie, if audacious enough and repeated enough times, will be believed by the masses.
Truly a many newshounds are innumerate muppets.

Damo Kiberd debunks many of the big lies floating about in Fianna Fail life rafts currently.

Enda Kenny is not a lover of sycophants and has told me so himself. Fine Gael should continue to tell people what the party has to offer to get us ahead, raise national morale and get people back to work. Kenny as Taoiseach will have a head and a heart. His most important initial task is to pick some imaginative people from outside his comfort zone as advisors and sounding boards. He could do worse than sound out Lucyloo. You don’t
have to like ’em to work with ’em!

RESPECT is what I ask for Lucinda Creighton – She has earned it.

In conclusion: Lucinda is a big plus for Fine Gael and for Irish politics
