Bakkies Botha shows Ireland

Ireland v South Africa lost 21-23 at Lansdowne Road in 2010. Pathetic crowd of 35,517 compliments of the IRFU and the recession. Remember it is only weeks since Leinster V Munster in the Magner’s League filled the little place. My group has seats in the East Lower, West Lower and Premium levels and every one got wet. It is a bad joke to have a new stadium in a wet climate that cannot ensure that stand ticket holders do not get wet when it rains. The shelter seems to be inferior to the old demolished stadium. I have been there twice and I don’t like the place. Peter Stringer is the best scrum-half after O’Leary. Ireland missed Gerry Flannery and Paul O’Connell desperately. Line-out was bossed by Victor Matfield who was simply magnificent all round. The Irish throw was poor – a fact.

The walk-them-down-the-field maul was embarrassing. Mike Ross should be looked at for tighthead. The Zimbabwean Tendai Mtawarira was really good all round – scrummaging and carrying the ball. du Plessis x2 were good. Brian O’Driscoll was again excellent. Maybe he should have let the guy get up in front of their line in the first half but the urgency shown was inspirational. Ronan O’Gara must be saluted for his display when he came on and for his Cap No 100. Jonathan Sexton played well about 80% so cannot be faulted. Let’s not talk about the front FOUR.

Finally best or luck and thanks to John Fogarty and Ronan McCormack who leave Leinster due to injury.
