Poppintree Community Sports Centre
Poppintree Community Sports Centre is located on Balbutcher Lane North in Poppintree. The centre consists of a large scale sports facility which includes a full size sports hall, youth studio, dance studio, fight studio, meeting room, playground and all weather floodlit playing area. The centre is also home to the D.C.C. Area Housing Office, Poppintree Community Forum, Poppintree Youth Project, Poppintree Early Education Centre, Ballymun Boxing Club, St. Pappins Boxing Club and the administration office of the Sports Across Ireland group.
Sports Centre
The sports centre is managed and run by staff from DUBLIN CITY COUNCIL and the participants from the Poppintree Community Employment Project. The centre offers service and facility provision to the local and broader community. The facilities offered by the centre include full size sports hall, youth studio, fight studio, dance studio and meeting facilities. The services we offer include after school clubs, night time clubs for local youth, sports camps, fitness classes, self defence classes, and a variety of other classes and activities to young people and adults in the local and broader community. We also plan to start Bingo from 14th the January.
Opening Times
The centre currently opens to the public from 9.00 am till 10.00 pm Monday to Thursday and from 9.00 am till 6.00pm on Friday. On Saturday we open from 9.30 am till 5.30 pm.
Classes on Offer in Sports Centre
We currently have a variety of classes on offer in the centre. They include Women’s Self Defence, Boxercise, BLT Blast, Circuit classes, Aerostep classes and Everything Football class.

Active Age Bowls Group, Sports Across Ireland Basket Ball, Poppintree Shotokan Karate Club, Ballymun United, Mobhi Magic Special Olympics, Invest to Save Youth Group, Ballymun Community Training Centre, Aisling Project, McKelvey Celtic, Medicus Basketball, Fit Kids/Fit Teens Dance Group, Dublin Roller Girls, Youth Action Project, Over 40’s football, Barry Meehan Football, The Block Hip Hop Group, Elite Fighting Concepts, Chungdokwan Martial Arts, Fujiama Martial Arts, St Margarets Boys Group, Sports Development Officer, Sports & Recreation Officer, FAI Development Officer, Boxing Development Officer, Poppintree Youth Project.
Boxing Centre
The boxing centre which is shared by Ballymun boxing club and St. Pappins boxing club is operating very successfully. Numbers attending are increasing ,with members from both clubs participating in area, regional and national competitions.
Youth Centre
Poppintree Youth Project operate the youth centre and it is operational every day of the week except Sundays. The project have their own dedicated members who participate in a large variety of activities and programmes. Poppintree Early Education Centre
The crèche is operated by the Poppintree Early Education Centre. It is fully operational and offers services from Monday to Friday catering for toddlers and pre school children from the local community.
DCC Housing and Community Office
The housing and community offices have their own dedicated entrance and alarm systems. This is the only part of the old building that remained intact. This unit also houses the local Poppintree Forum Office. The members of the forum have access to these offices on demand. The conference room is used by the forum and is also available to local groups for meeting or training purposes.
Sports Across Ireland
This group provides sporting programmes and assistance to local schools, youth groups and community groups. They offer ongoing coaching and programmes throughout the year primarily through the medium of basketball and football. They have an administration office in the main building where their three staff work from and they also work with the centre management in relation to rolling out some of their programmes from and within the centre.

Development Officers
From September the development officers for sport, football, boxing and sport and recreation have operated from offices in the main building. They will also provide a range of activities and programmes in the centre for young people and adults.

Community Employment Project
The participants from the project continue to work alongside the full time staff in the centre. The sponsor group of the project have an office in the building from which the supervisor of the project operates alongside administration staff. The participants are an invaluable resource in the operations of the centre and are involved in all programmes and services on offer.
