Now Hanafin refuses to give up €90K severance pay-off – Donohoe

FF cut min wage, blind pensions and disability benefits and then take a fortune in severance pay-offs

Like Micheal Martin before her, Fianna Fáil Deputy Leader Mary Hanafin confirmed this morning on radio that she refuses to give up her massive Ministerial severance package of €88,745.

Speaking on RTE’s Morning Ireland, Minister Hanafin refused to give up her severance payment and made farcical suggestions that she may if the law was changed. Under its political reform programme Fine Gael have pledged to scrap Ministerial severance and have urged departing Ministers not to avail of the payment.

“Another day, another senior Fianna Failer exposes Micheal Martin’s bogus political reform agenda.

“First Micheal Martin himself refused to give up his massive ‘disappointment pay-off’, then a Fianna Fail TD said €100,000 is not enough pay for TDs and now Mary Hanafin pledges to keep her severance.

“Alongside Hanafin and Martin, Brian Lenihan, Mary Coughlan, Eamon O’Cuiv, Pat Carey, Brendan Smith are each due to receive tax free payments of €88,745 under a law introduced by a previous Fianna Fail Government.

“The people receiving these payments represent a rogue’s gallery of those who have brought financial ruin upon our country. Fianna Fail cut the minimum wage, blind pensions and disability benefits and then take a fortune in severance pay-offs.

“In the context of the hardship that Fianna Fail has visited on normal people these amounts are surely an obscenity. This motley crew, who between them have contrived to destroy our economy, are taking a last big payday before they are put out to pasture by the electorate.”
