Dr Leo Varadkar on the budget deficit correction and Labour.

Can Labour be trusted on the economy after Rabbitte admits 2014 target deception? – Varadkar
Questions once again have been raised as to whether The Labour Party can be trusted on the economy after Pat Rabbitte admitted today that Labour never had any real intention of sticking to the 2014 deadline when it came to the 3% deficit to GDP ratio according to Fine Gael Front Bench Spokesman, Leo Varadkar.
“On RTE’s News at One today, Pat Rabbitte admitted that Labour had only committed to 3% by 2014 when it had been necessary to ‘pull on the green jersey’ but had no intention of sticking to the target.
“With such willingness to chop and change on key economic policies, questions once again have been raised as to whether Labour can be trusted on the economy.
“If Labour weren’t telling us the truth on the deficit, how can anybody believe them when they say they won’t raise income taxes on low to middle income families or cut social welfare again?
“Labour has a serious and growing credibility problem when it comes to the economy.”
