Mary Flaherty and Bill Tormey campaign for Fine Gael in Dublin Northwest

This afternoon, Mary Flaherty returned Dublin Northwest where she had been Fine Gael TD to campaign alongside Bill Tormey. It is remarkable that after a decade, the voters recognised and responded to Mary in droves. She still has a political base here and would be a good candidate. Even Mary was surprised by the mood for change in the electorate. Mary never passed an unanswered door without inserting a personal hand-written personal note. While Mary and I were canvassing with John Bailey, Gerry O’Connell and Austin Barrett, Brendan Brady lead a team with canvassing near my hospital at Beaumont.

I want to also thank my Finglas support group for postering while we were canvassing.

There is concern about the state of the country. Some issues generate passion., – Public servants pushed to the pin of economic survival by pay cuts, tax increases and pension levies are spitting metaphorical blood and are deeply angry and frustrated; HSE front line people afraid of redundancy when no party has put them in the firing line; Pension cuts for the state pension and in public service pensions; fear of property taxes, and Abortion. These were today’s issues.
