National Children’s Hospital should not be at Mater Site

John Gallagher. Eh! Chairman of the Mater Children’s Hospital project, says that the Phibsboro site is just fine and suitable. Well sir, I disagree with you. I heard on the radio that Noel Smyth is still offering a site on the Naas Road at cost price. The Mater site is too confined, traffic snarled and relatively inaccessible. It’s advantages include co-location with adult teaching hospital, large cohort of cardiac services there, laboratory and imaging departments in situ.

The Luas line is a Naas Road advantage as is access from the M50. The other option is Blanchardstown where there is direct access to the M50/M3 and access to the Metro West when built.

Ease of access is important as is access to adult hospitals. Critical mass is important.
