Genes are important – Origins and Roots are important – Nature and Nurture – Not Nurture alone.

The 1975 Children’s Act in the UK allows adopted people free access to all records to their origins and adoption files on turning 18 years old. It appears that Frances fitzGerald intends to deny that right to “historic” adoptees in Ireland. SHAME

The idea that the state can deprive a person of access to the most fundamental information of all – who am I? Who do I derive from? Who were my ancestors? – is abhorrent.

If there is no knowledge, then nothing can be done at the moment but that will only last until gene data bases become ubiquitous in the future. But where an agency knows, then refusing a persons notes is inexcusable.

This should be a fundamental right of all citizens. The Children’s Referendum gets more interesting daily.
