HSE Response re. Claims that Outpatients Services are to be reduced in
Cavan Monaghan Hospital Group

Cavan Monaghan Hospital Group Senior Management Team met with staff
representatives including union representatives yesterday regarding
Outpatient Patient Departments in Cavan & Monaghan Hospitals.

Management advised that a review is currently being undertaken of the
clinics scheduled on both sites and whilst it is intended to continue
all clinic services on both hospital sites a staffing reduction
equating to 25% is required to achieve cost reductions. Local
Management have been liaising with all key staff on this measure.

It is important to reassure all patients that this measure will not
result in 25% reduction of clinics.

Management also advised staff that the efficiency measure will be
closely monitored to ensure patients are receiving appropriate out
patient care in Cavan & Monaghan Hospitals.

In this regard an ongoing engagement process commenced with staff
before Christmas on the measures that have to be taken to deal with
the 2011 overspend.

It is important to stress that this measure is being implemented to
address the deficit being carried forward and no budget has been
confirmed for 2012 to date.

The HSE Dublin North East is fully aware that services are facing into
a challenging year in 2012 with budget and resource reductions. In
preparation all service costs are currently being reviewed to develop
a regional service plan for 2012 and to ensure we live within whatever
budget is allocated.
