Schools at the Ballymun Swimming Pool

A meeting has been arranged with the school principals in the Ballymun
/ Finglas area in relation to a change to the terms and conditions of
the school swim teaching classes in Ballymun Leisure centre. This
change relates to the 10am to 11am Monday to Friday swim teaching
classes and is already in place for all other classes for schools and
other organisations in both Ballymun Leisure centre at all other
times and in all other City Council leisure centres.

The change implemented is that the schools involved do not have
exclusive use of the swimming pool for classes during the 10am to 11am
time slot in line with current practice in Ballymun (all other times)
and all other Dublin City Council leisure centres.
A meeting with the school principals will take place at 8.00am on
Friday 27th January in Ballymun Leisure Centre. Paul Clegg, Executive
Manager, Culture Recreation and Amenity Department will attend the
meeting.

Comment: If schools are using the pool in sufficient numbers, use from
10 am to 11 am should be made exclusive and reviewed for usage on a
weekly basis. If this is not an executive function, it should be
forwarded to the area committee. Child protection and such issues come
to mind.

If the City Council management insist on a different outcome, then the
case for so deciding should be clear and evidence-based.
