Laboratory Medicine at Dundalk and Drogheda

From week commencing Monday, February 13th, 2012 all lab services for
Louth County Hospital (LCH) will be amalgamated with services for Our
Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda (OLOL) and will be processed in the
lab in OLOL .

Samples will continue to be accepted in LCH and will be sent to OLOL
for processing. Test results will issue directly from the lab in
OLOL.

The HSE acknowledges the commitment of the lab staff and staff unions
to this amalgamation process which has been achieved under the terms
of the PSA and requires Medical Scientists, Clerical and Lab work
attendants to transfer from Dundalk to Drogheda.

To date, the lab in LCH has operated 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday with
GP work accounting from 85% of the workload and 15% clinic work. The
lab in Drogheda operates a 24/7 service and had capacity to undertake
the additional work .

Management have notified staff in LCH and GPs of this change in
service. GPs have also been advised that they will have immediate
access to test results from Drogheda electronically via the Healthlink
system, a service not previously available from LCH.

The amalgamation of lab services will result in €400,000 savings for
the Louth Meath Hospital Group.
