HSE Response to Queries re. Lisdarn Unit, Cavan

1.Can you confirm that the Lisdarn Unit will not be downgraded or
closed and will be used as a stepdown facility for Cavan General? Yes

2.If so, I understand this will free up beds in Cavan General – can
you confirm the benefits of such a move? The plan is to
utilise Lisdaran as a step down facility for patients who require more
care before returning home. The benefits of step down beds will be
that patients in Cavan General Hospital not requiring medical
intervention can be transferred to Lisdaran while waiting further
supports in the Community leading to a seamless discharge. This will
inevitably allow for a speedier discharge of patients from acute
hospital beds.

3.But what impact will this move have on the Lisdarn Unit and the
services it currently provides? This transition to step down will not
affect our existing residents or the service we currently provide.

4. Will respite still be provided for patients? Respite Services will
continue as present.

5. What impact changing this to a step-down facility have on the long
term patients receiving care there? Will they need to be moved
elsewhere? This transition to step down will not affect our existing
residents or the service we currently provide.

6. Will this result in staff being redeployed to Ballyconnell and
other facilities? No, redeployment, see above.

7. Can you confirm that HIQUA has registered the facility as adequate
in recent weeks? Lisdaran Centre for Older Persons is currently under
going the process for HIQA registration as are all Cavan Monaghan HSE
Residential Facilities.
