University College London and London School of Hygiene and
Tropical Medicine (located literally next door to each other) should
merge.

That would undoubtedly give the combined institution a huge boost,
including in terms of 'perception rankings' such as these.

It is amazing to see Middle East Technical University,Turkey in
this ranking.

I do think thes-wur is the most thorough ranking out there.
However, the reputation criteria is not serious.

Why is it flawed? Here is the answer:

The responses have put 44 US universities in the top 100 - and 44%
of responses came from academics in US universities.

There were 28% of responses from Europe and 25% from Asia and the
Middle East.

I agree with boudiou. It would be more interesting to see how many
times people cited a university outside of their country at the time
of survey. While still an imperfect measure, I suspect the top would
not change, but it would expose much volatility outside of the top 10.

"Reputation" rankings of this kind are little more than rankings
of which universites are best-known. Interesting but highly
misleading.

It is interesting that LSE rose sharply in a year when it was
heavily in the news for a bad reason, and that Japanese universities
rose in a year when Japan was heavily in the news because of the
earthquake.
