The 11th annual East Cavan Mental Health Association essay competition
for primary schools in the area took place over the past month. The
prizes were presented at the Bailie Hotel in Bailieborough on Friday
night. There were over 100 essays. Charlie Parker, judged the assays
and gave a speech at the function which was chaired by Winston Turner
and was organised by the secretary Audrey Rogers. There were three
prizes for each of seven schools.
The title of the essay was “Friendship is cool!”
The winners were Megan Wilson from the Model School, Ballieborough,
Grace Clarke of Killincare NS, Aoibhin McPhillips from Shercock,
Fatima Mahi from St Annes Bailieborough, Dale Andrew Thompson of East
Knockbride, Aaron Robertson of St Josephs, Kingscourt and Ben Gormley
of Ballinamony. Ben won the overall prize.
Cathaoirlach Sean McKiernan performed the honours.
