Cavan General Hospital – Acute Medicine Programme

Acute Medicine Programme- Transitional Short Stay Unit, Cavan General Hospital
As part of the Cavan Monaghan Hospitals continued plan to implement
the Acute Medicine Programme, approval has been granted from the
Special Delivery Unit of the Department of Health, supported by the
RDO to provide a transitional Short Stay Unit (SSU) in Cavan General
Hospital.  This Short Stay Unit is a new way of managing patients.  It
will commence on Thursday, 27th September, 2012 and will consist of 16
beds which will accommodate short-stay medical inpatients, i.e. under
48 hours length of stay, who have met the admission criteria for this
ward.  The purpose of the SSU is to improve patient flow and reduce
average length of stay resulting in an overall reduction in bed days
used.
