Monaghan Hospital beds and occupancy

HSE Response re. Monaghan Hospital Wards:

The HSE confirms that there are no empty wards available to accommodate care of the elderly patients in Monaghan Hospital. There are 2 Wards in Monaghan Hospital, i.e. Rehabilitation Unit and Step Down Unit, and are currently maintained and staffed to accommodate 26 Patients.There is a defined referral criteria for admission to both facilities and Monaghan Hospital is not commissioned as a long term care facility.

The Rehabilitation Unit aims to provide a multi disciplinary approach to rehabilitation to allow adult clients over the age of 18 years of age to reach their maximum potential. The Step Down Unit aims to accommodate patients from the Cavan/Monaghan area. These patients are medically discharged from an Acute Hospital and require a period of convalescence of 1-4 weeks, not exceeding 4 weeks. Both facilities are currently fully occupied. The average percentage occupancy rate for these wards for 2012 was 91 %. All other area’s of the hospital are used to provide Day Services, including Endoscopy & Theatre, Cardiac Services, Out Patient Services, Occupational Health, Speech & Language, Physiotherapy, Radiology and a Minor Injury Unit.
