Donegal Dennison on safari in Dublin

“That the Forum receive a detailed response to the HIQA Hygiene Report on Connolly Hospital last November and itemising changes that have been made to address the concerns raised and to indicate if all staff have now had training in hand hygiene.”

Cllr. Kieran Dennison

Response:

Following the HIQA Hygiene Report on Connolly Hospital last November, the Hospital prepared an Infection Prevention & Control Quality Improvement Plan (copy attached).

In relation to Hand Hygiene the following are the actions in the above plan:

  • To ensure that all CHB employees (including locum staff and students) have mandatory programme of education and training on the prevention and control of infection, including Hand Hygiene, in order to understand responsibility for infection control and the actions they must personally take.
  • To ensure protected time required for staff to attend hand hygiene/standard precautions education sessions.
  • To promote HSE e-learning programme. Embed e-learning as a modality for annual updates.
  • To purchase Surewash Hand Hygiene System to aid hand hygiene education.

These above initiatives are ongoing.
