Bill reports – Here is the latest information from the city Council about Finglas.
Housing Allocations
From January 1st 2009 to the 31st of December 2009 46 Older Persons dwellings were allocated in the Finglas Area
From January 1st 2009 to the 31st December 2010, 61 houses were allocated in the Finglas Area
Estate Management
Throughout 2009 the Anti-Social Unit received 137 complaints and conducted 77 interviews.
18 complaints received and 13 interviews took place in the Finglas Area Office between December 2009 and January 2010.
Warrants for Possession: (eviction)
- One Warrant granted with no stay due to tenants involvement in drug dealing in the Finglas area. This has since been appealed. Awaiting date for appeal hearing
- Warrant granted for Tenancy in the Berryfield area with a two-month stay.
Virginia Area
Meetings are ongoing with local residents and work is in progress on building a wall and railings to close off Virginia Drive from Cardiffsbridge Road.
Griffith Heights
Dublin City Council has had an initial meeting with the mediator. Noreside Construction has made contact with the mediator through their solicitor and has agreed to meet on the 4th March 2010. The conditions surveys taking place on the houses are almost complete except for houses that we are having a difficulty with gaining access.
Avila Park
Work is now complete on some minor estate enhancements at the entrance to Avilla Park.
Kilshane Road
The lane way at Kilshane Road has been closed.
Fairlawn Road/Park
The fencing at the rear of Fairlawn Park and the Ardmore Hotel has been removed. The graffiti along the back boundary walls of houses along Fairlawn Road and Fairlawn Park has been removed.
Dublin City Council’s Parks Division have been requested to explore the feasibility of restoring to grass the waste ground at the rear of 75 to 85 Fairlawn Park facing out onto Tolka Valley Road.
Parks Division has also been asked to consider the feasibility of this site for allotments.
No funding has yet been identified for either option.
Ballygall Road East Older Persons Complex
The redevelopment of Ballygall Road Older Persons Complex is unlikely to take place this year. The project appraisal is awaiting approval with the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government since October 2008. Part 8 planning permission for the project was received in March 2008.
Finglas Safety Forum
The first meeting of 2010 took place on 9th February. The Gardai gave a presentation on the Neighbourhood Watch Scheme with a view to reinvigorating the scheme throughout the Finglas area. The date for the next meeting was fixed for the 4th May 2010 at 7.30 pm. The control of horses and dogs will be discussed at the next meeting.
Rents Update.
The Finglas Area Office continues to provide a rent assessment service for tenants living in the Finglas area. During the months of December 2009 and January 2010 the Rent Assessment Officer has conducted 57 rent assessments for the Finglas area. Tenants are encouraged to contact the Finglas Area Office with any information about changes in their financial situation.
Antisocial behaviour
Darren Ryan has transferred from the Anti-Social Unit in the Finglas Office and has been replaced by Catherine Quinlan, who will also have responsibility for Allocations in the Finglas area.
Low water Pressure
During the spell of inclement weather in January the Finglas area was badly affected by low water pressure. A standpipe was made available at the Finglas Area Office for residents to fill containers with water. A limited supply of containers were also made available free of charge. Area office staff delivered containers of water, to any vulnerable resident identified.
Snow and Ice
Also during this period all Older Persons Complexes were inspected by area staff to ensure that footpaths, stairwells and balconies were clear of snow and ice.
