Cricket

We must include everyone in the community. One of the greatest Irish leaders, Charles Stewart Parnell has an avid devotee of cricket as was Samuel Beckett in his time at Trinity College Dublin. Before the foundation of the GAA, cricket was probably the most popular sport in the country.

Currently, Santry Avenue man, Eoin Morgan is one of the best players in the world, having just played for Bangalore in the Indian Premier League. He has played for CUS in school, Malahide,Middlesex, Ireland at all levels and now England. He joins Ed Joyce from Bray and Merrion Cricket Club in the small group who have played for both Ireland and England. PS Ireland do not play Test Matches which explains all this. Many of Australia’s finest have been Irish Aussies – Bill O’Reilly comes to mind.
