Waste policy for the greater Dublin area.

Judge McKechies commented on a report commissioned by four Dublin Councils on waste management and resulted in the waste policy being varied in 2008 to state that only councils or their contractors could collect waste which is clearly anticompetitive and appears to me to be in contravention to EU competition law. But I have no expertise on the subject but at the time I thought that the attitude and form of the Dublin City Council management in that area was dictatorial and inappropriate. This issue is intertwined with the waste volume issue involving the Ringsend incinerator. I will ask the City Manager for a comment on the present position of waste management competition policy at Dublin City Council and post the response here.
