Drinking Water Supply in Dublin
The Dublin region including parts of Wicklow and kildare uses about 540 million litres per day but only produces 518 million litres. Ballymore Eustace reservoir is due to be increased from 275 million litres ot 318 million litres in 2010. There is the intention to increase Leixlip reservoir also. These serve different areas in the city.
The engineers need to extract 350 million litres daily from the Shannon which represents 3% of the Shannon water sources every day.
Obviously, conservation is important and so is the plugging of leaks which current accounts for about 32% of the water produced. This can be got down to 21% economically.
So watch out for water charges. The only question is how much?
