Football Drop-in Sessions
FAI/ Football in the Community Officer continues to run football drop-in sessions for girls ages 7+ in the PE Hall, Trinity Comprehensive School throughout the year on Tuesdays from 5pm to 6pm. Approximately 35 girls have attended, averaging 20 girls per week. Football drop-in sessions for boys ages 7-14 held in the PE Hall, Trinity Comprehensive School throughout the year on Wednesdays from 4pm – 5pm. Approximately 78 boys have attended, averaging 25 boys per week.
These programmes are funded by Ballymun Regeneration Ltd and working in conjunction with the Ballymun Youth groups.
Late Night Leagues
I in partnership with the Community Gardai have been running the Late Night League for ages 14 – 21 year olds at the BRL Umbro Futsal Arena. This is held on Friday Nights from 9pm to Midnight. The programme was run in March 2010 for 6 weeks and in July/August for 5 weeks. Each evening there is an average of 50-60 youths participating. FAI/DCC Football in the Community Officer in partnership with the Community Gardai ran the first Girls only Late Night League for all ages held at the Poppintree Community Sports Centre on Tuesday nights from 7.30pm to 8.30pm during May/June 2010. This programme ran for 4 weeks with 20-30 girls attending each night.
Coach Education
A club kickstart 1 coaching course was held at St. Kevins Boys in January 2010 with 21 local coaches who all work at the club participating.
Kickstart 2 coaching course was held for St. Kevins boys on 21st – 23rd May at St. Kevins Boys FC, Whitehall. 18 local coaches completed this course.
Kickstart 1 coaching course was held in Ballymun on Saturday 8th May for 33 local coaches to get onto the coaching ladder.
In conjunction with Ballymun Youth Action Project and Ballymun Regional Youth Resource (BRYR) a kickstart 1 course was run for 15 participants as part of the reintegration programme at Poppintree Community Sports Centre on May 26th 2010. Most of the participants are recovering addicts and looking to work and get back into the local community. A kickstart 1 coaching course was held for the Community Gardai section for all Gardai officers from around Dublin on Saturday 7th August at Trinity Comprehensive School. Officers participated and will now use the experience to work alongside FAI officers in the community programmes.
Summer Soccer Camp
In partnership with the Community Gardai and Ballymun Regeneration Ltd, an evening soccer camp was held at Trinity Comprehensive Sports Facilities for boys and girls ages 7-14. 60 kids were registered and participated in soccer coaching session and mini-games. A large number of coaches were involved on a voluntary basis (all were kickstart 1 minimum qualified).
Youth agencies in the area were informed and asked to send kids to the camp. Cost for each child was €10.

After School Drop in sessions will be held at Virgin Mary Boys National School on Tuesday Afternoons from 3pm – 4pm using the school hall. This programme enables boys to play football on a reward scheme and also enables the FAI/DCC officer to promote community programmes. After School Drop in sessions will be held at Virgin Mary Girls National School on Thursday Afternoons from 3pm – 4pm using the school hall. This programme enables girls to play football and introduces football to young girls. It also enables the FAI/DCC officer to promote community programmes.
Late Night Leagues
FAI/DCC Football in the Community Officer in partnership with the Community Gardai will run the Late Night League for ages 14 – 21 year olds at the BRL Umbro Futsal Arena, on Friday Nights from 9pm to Midnight, from September 17th for 4 weeks. Jigsaw Young Ballymun are sponsoring this 4 week league to promote the Mental Health week in October. A City wide late night league will be run in November for 4 weeks with the Dublin Finals being held in the first week of December. FAI/DCC Football in the Community Officer in partnership with the Community Gardai will run a Girls only Late Night League for all ages at Poppintree Community Sports Centre on Tuesday nights from 7.30pm to 8.30pm during September or October (TBC)2010.
Coach Education
A kickstart 1 coaching course will be held at Ballymun United FC Complex beside Ikea on Saturday 4th September. A kickstart 2 coaching course will also be held at Ballymun United FC Complex beside Ikea during the weekend of 24th to 26th September.
Girls Football Coaching Sessions
In conjunction with Margaret Aylward Community College, the FAI/DCC Football in the Community officer sets up coaching sessions for 1st – 3rd year girls to encourage and introduce them to football. Majority of girls are from the Ballymun area and will not attend community programmes.
Schools Blitzes
In conjunction with the Samaritans, the FAI/DCC Football in the Community Officer is running a Primary School blitz on Wednesday 8th September and a secondary school blitz in Thursday 9th September. The Samaritans approached the FAI for assistance to promote their promotion week “Life is worth talking about” week. The venue is the sports facilities at Trinity Comprehensive School.
Intercultural Programmes
From 11th to 22nd October in conjunction with UEFA Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE) weeks the FAI/DCC Football in the Community Officers will attend schools to carry out presentations on Sports against Racism and invite schools to play in a blitz to promote the projects.
Anna Livia Cup
The FAI/DCC Anna Livia Futsal Cup for both Under 13 boys and girls will be held in Ballymun in the months of October and November. Previous competitions showed a high number of teams competing. Winners will progress to finals.
