Cavan Hospital now

HSE Response re. Facilities at Cavan General Hospital & Services for
Older Persons in Cavan Monaghan area:

1.Can you confirm that the laundry and Cavan General is closed – or
will be closing in the immediate future? Also if this is true, will
this mean that the laundry will be outsourced from here on in?

Also I understand the stores are being reviewed at the Cavan Hospital.

Cavan Monaghan Hospital Group Management is fully aware that services
are facing into a challenging year with budget and resource
reductions. In preparation all service costs are currently  being
reviewed  to ensure we live within whatever budget is allocated.

Cavan Monaghan Hospital Group Management is committed to communicating
any planned service changes to service users, staff, staff
representatives and the public well in advance of such changes coming
into effect.

It is important to stress that no budgets have been confirmed to date
and no decisions have been made at this time.
Further briefing and information will be provided on an ongoing basis.

2. Also on a seperate matter, I understand Lisdaran is under review,
St.Mary’s in Castleblaney is facing possible downgrading, possibly in
its day services – can you confirm or deny this? We have heard a date
for the closure of Lisdaran as possibly March 30th 2012 – is this
We have also heard that Orial House (Elderly facility) in Monaghan may
also face closure – is this true?

Please be advised that the HSE has made no decision to close Lisdarn
Unit for the Elderly or any unit for older persons.  The HSE also wish
to clearly state that no patients have been removed from Lisdarn Unit
for the Elderly as a step towards closure of this unit.

The HSE are currently engaged in an overall assessment of Services for
Older Persons Long Stay Residential Care including infrastructure,
need, reconfiguration potential in the long term strategic planning of
the service.  Part of this process includes consideration of the
number of beds and type of long term care provision required including
the number and purpose of long stay. We are committed to establishing
the environmental improvements required to ensure we meet the HIQA
standards across all units in the Cavan and Monaghan Area including
Lisdarn Unit for the Elderly

As part of this an option appraisal of all services for older persons
for 2012 is underway which is not yet complete.  It is clear that in
the light of national financial constraints and HIQA regulations, some
closures and or bed reductions will occur in Cavan and Monaghan but
this will be kept to a minimum.

An intensive communication process and consultation with affected
service users, family input, the public, staff and unions will be put
in place prior to moving ahead with closure of any public unit.
