Cavan and Monaghan Hospitals

Cavan and Monaghan Hospital is committed to delivering the Service
Plan 2012 patient activity within the allocated budget.   The Service
Plan requires a reduction in planned patient activity, agency usage
and staff absenteeism. A number of measures have been implemented to
achieve this reduction.  These measures include a reduction in planned
theatre activity in the Cavan Hospital site as and from Monday 23rd
April, 2012.   It is important to note that from 1st January 2012 to
the 31st March 2012 there has been a significant increase in the
number of patients receiving day services in Cavan and Monaghan
Hospitals equating to 20% increase in the number of patients treated
compared with the same period in 2011.

It is important to reassure patients and the general public that the
reduction in theatre applies only to routine planned procedures and
that all patients who require emergency and urgent procedures will be
have these performed as normal.

Cavan / Monaghan Management Team are in a position to implement these
measures as the current waiting times for planned surgery in the Cavan
Monaghan Hospitals is one of the shortest in the country.

The management of the hospital are closely monitoring all patient
waiting times for procedures in Cavan General Hospital and there has
not been a reduction in theatre activity in Monaghan Hospital.
Monaghan Hospital has not been affected by these measures and
continues to provide a full Day procedure service.
