Maths in school

Speaking on Morning Ireland this morning, Minister Quinn has said that
the number of people taking Leaving Cert honours maths has risen 20%
on last year.

This can be attributed to the 25 bonus points which those receiving an
honour in honours maths are receiving from this year forward.
He also said that all primary school teachers will have to have
honours maths going forward.

The Irish University Association (IUA) has been asked to submit a
report on the overall Leaving Cert points system. An interim report is
due in the next couple of weeks with a full report due at the end of
the year.
