Domestic Abuse Services – Cavan Monaghan

1.How many people in Cavan have reported domestic abuse in the last 3 years?
Services for victims of domestic violence are provided in Cavan & Monaghan by Tearmann Domestic Violence Services. Tearmann provides information, support, outreach, advocacy, court accompaniment and emotional support to women experiencing domestic abuse.

Tearmann provided services to 250 women from Cavan in the past three years: 70 women in 2010, 90 women in 2011 and 88 women in 2012.

Tearmann is primarily funded by H.S.E. Child and Family Services.

2. Is there no emergency accommodation in Cavan for those suffering from domestic abuse?
Statutory responsibility for provision of emergency accommodation lies with the Local Authority. Denis McArdle (Regional Homeless Officer) is based in Louth County Council.

Emergency accommodation is available for Cavan women in Domestic Violence Refuges in Navan, Dundalk and Drogheda.

Services for men who are victims of domestic abuse are available from AMEN.

3. Are there any plans within the HSE to expand domestic abuse services so they are more readily available within the county?
The needs of victims of domestic violence cannot be fully met by any one agency alone. Meeting the needs of victims of domestic violence necessitates a broad range of services including, housing, justice, social protection and health working collectively to prevent abuse and to help victims.
