That a comprehensive report be given to the Forum itemising the expenditure planned for this year at St. Francis Hospice, Blanchardstown and the expected number of inpatients that can be accommodated for each month of 2014.”

St. Francis Hospice Raheny has been providing specialist palliative care services to the people of North Dublin City and County for the past 22 years. Since September 2001, St. Francis Hospice has been providing services for the Dublin North West area.

The Community Palliative Care Team is based in the Hospice in Blanchardstown and provides Hospice Day Care and Out-Patient Services for two days per week. The HSE provides funding in the amount of €386,000 and this service is in place since October 2011.

One of the key priorities in the HSE National Service Plan is to ensure service provision for adult palliative care by addressing service gaps. The Health Service National Service Plan 2014 specifies: “Ensure improved capacity and capability for Dublin North East in relation to palliative care ambulatory and inpatient Services, specifically staged opening and usage of St. Francis Hospice, Blanchardstown. (24 beds). (€1M)”

The overall number of specialist palliative care beds proposed for St. Francis Hospice Blanchardstown is 24 beds. At this stage it is anticipated that a number of beds may be opened in the last quarter of Year 2014. The total pay costs to provide this service are €2,600,515 and total non pay costs are €855,261 for St Francis Hospice, Blanchardstown, totalling €3,455,776, for a full one year period.
